Impulse Arc
A studio for focused products.
Impulse Arc builds and releases small, carefully made products, each meant to do one thing well.
- Wavelength — a circadian light meter and coach for iPhone.
- Continuo.fm — lossless sharing for musicians' mixes and masters.
- Absurdly Optimized — rigorous, useful reviews and calculators.
Founder
Impulse Arc is run by Ben Kazez, a concert singer. He is a baritone who performs internationally, with Bach's Passions at the center of his work. He has sung the Passions with the Netherlands Bach Society under Masato Suzuki, spent several seasons in the Monteverdi Choir under Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the BBC Proms and the Berlin Philharmonie, and appeared with the Academy of Ancient Music under Laurence Cummings. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and as a Britten-Pears young artist.
Singing is his second career. In his early twenties he worked in software. He created FlightTrack, the best-selling travel app for four years and praised by the New York Times. Steve Jobs mentioned it in two keynotes, and it is in the App Store Hall of Fame. He founded Mobiata, which Expedia acquired in 2010, where his team built the official Expedia app. Businessweek named him among America's Top 25 Best Young Entrepreneurs. He left the industry in 2012 to sing.
Impulse Arc carries that work forward, several of its products growing out of a performer's life. Wavelength comes from touring across time zones; Continuo.fm from sharing recordings with fellow musicians. Fuller background is at benkazez.com and benkazez.com/tech.
